Mega Man Movie Headed to Netflix?
The road to a Mega Man motion picture has been long and slow, but hey, it took Sonic the Hedgehog seven years to make it to the silver screen (Wreck-It Ralph notwithstanding), and he’s the fastest thing alive!
Anyway, there was a bit of a bump in the road as Disney acquired Fox and started doing their best Cut Man impression to most of the studio’s projects in development. This led to some people fearing the worst (or celebrating the best, depending on where you fall on this entire prospect) for the Blue Bomber’s Hollywood aspirations.
However, while Fox was on to distribute the film, Chernin Entertainment — the guys actually making it — seem to have held on to the rights to some 80-something film projects it had in the works, presumably including Mega Man.
Now, they’ve signed a “non-exclusive first look feature film producing deal with Netflix,” which sounds like Netflix may get the first right of refusal on distributing Chernin’s future projects — again, presumably including Mega Man. However, the non-exclusive nature of the deal would seem to mean that Netflix moneyhatting Mega Man is simply a possibility at this point — perhaps a stronger one than it was previously, but nevertheless only a possibility.
And that’s the latest. We’ll have more for you as it develops.
