Nintendo Announces the Super NES Classic Edition
It was right about this time last year that Nintendo announced the “Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition,” or just “NES Classic” for short. There was excitement in the air, excitement which dissipated quickly a few months later when few were ever able to get their hands on one.
Well, they’re at it again, and this time it’s with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System of the same basic idea, and as before, there is a Mega Man game included in the lot: Mega Man X.
For a lot of you, this may be largely unremarkable news — after all, the original Mega Man X for the Super NES is hardly one of the most difficult games to get one’s hands on (that honor would go to Mega Man X3, and even then, the Virtual Console has negated that in recent years).
Still, this box is worth a look for those with a broader interest in Nintendo games, as it features two titles never released to the Virtual Console before in Star Fox and Yoshi’s Island (no, we’re not counting the Game Boy Advance version), and one game that was never released at all: Star Fox 2.
The original NES Classic Edition was quite a letdown for a lot of people, due to more scalpers seemingly getting their hands on it than people who were actually interested in the product itself. Fortunately, it seems Nintendo may have taken some lessons from the experience, which you can read all about in my news/editorial rant over at Mario’s Hat.
If you are interested in getting one, they’ll be available on September 29th, 2017 at a price of $79.99 USD/$99.99 CAD.
