Capcom Registers New Mega Man Trademark… in New Zealand?
So, this one is sort of odd. As of October 16th, 2015, Capcom Co., Ltd. has apparently been successful in registering a new trademark for “Mega Man” in the country of New Zealand. See for yourself:
So… yeah. That’s a thing. It’s reportedly not a renewal of an old trademark, but an all-new trademark that’s an umbrella for a range of different uses, from video games to merchandise to animation and film.
Given that this is New Zealand, it’s hard to say what, if anything, this might mean in particular for our favorite franchise. With the upcoming animated series, this might simply be meant to encompass it and anything which might be associated with it in the long term.
Or maybe Capcom’s going to take part in a time share with Saban and do a live action show back-to-back with Power Rangers, as the latter is filmed there.
