What I’m Mega-Thankful For This Year
I was going to do a different article this week, but then I realized “Wait a minute, it’s Thanksgiving in the States this week. Is anyone even going to be around to read it?”
What to do, what to do… and then it occurred to me, I’ve got quite a bit to be thankful for this year, all related to Mega Man! Why not write about that?
And so here we are. Something to hopefully help fill a few moments of your time if you’ve bothered to cast your eyes this way, but nothing you’d really “miss” otherwise.
Now, I know the general landscape surrounding Mega Man kind of reads like “Capcom hasn’t announced a new game in the series and it’s been five years since Mega Man 11. What’s there to be thankful for?”
And to that, I say: Lots!
For starters, I’m thankful for a franchise that’s produced so much great material for us to appreciate. For the last 36 years, we’ve gotten a whole lot of great games, and so much more. Cartoons, comic books, manga, figures, model kits, plush toys, replica Mega Busters — just a lot of really neat stuff.
While it’s easy to look to an unknown future and be worried about what’s yet to come, it’s also good to look back and enjoy everything that we’ve had so far, too.
I’m thankful for the many fans who have enriched that material with their own contributions, be it through fan art, music remixes, video retrospectives, original characters, and everything that helps make the Mega Man universe feel just that much bigger. For however long it lasts, you can follow me on SMOKAT @TheMMNetwork to see what I mean, as I love to retweet peoples’ works all the time.
On that note, I’m thankful to have my own outlet to expand a little bit of that world in Legends of the Halcyon Era.
Of course, I’m also thankful for those who have taken the time to read it and hopefully enjoyed it. And without giving away too much, things are going to get a whole lot bigger really soon.
I’m thankful for the aid and assistance of Victor, Tabby, and my wife, Nadia, for helping me bring this vision I have to life over the last year and a half (give or take). Really, I can’t thank them enough for their efforts in making this more than just a bunch of text on a website.
I’m thankful for Lanceheart and Matthew, who have been invaluable and instrumental in helping keep this place running. Without them, I don’t know what I’d do. (See if Tripod still exists, and maybe start hard coding something from the ground up, maybe?)
Suffice to say, I’m also thankful the site is still running in some form after all this time.
I’m thankful for the sales success that Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection has seen since its release earlier this year. Between this and Mega Man 11, I hope Capcom starts to get a better idea of what people want out of the Mega Man franchise, and will work to provide it more in the years to come.
And finally, I’m thankful for you reading this!
Also, in case you haven’t heard, re-upping our hosting for the next few years took a big bite out of our bank account, so if you like what we’re doing here, would like to see us expand our breadth of content, and can kick in a few bucks to our Patreon or buy us an E Tank on Ko-fi, we’d greatly appreciate it! You might even say that we’d be Mega-thankful for any support you can offer!
