Holiday ’25 Update
To paraphrase an old adage: “Mega Man plans. Dr. Wily laughs.”
I’ve used that line many a time in the posts regarding the “Nadia & David’s Mega Man Mayhem” live streams, as a reference to the chaotic nature of trying to follow a set plan or schedule, and well, I guess it’s never come home to roost harder than it has now.
I had a nice bit of work on some stuff for Nintendo Force and other things I cannot currently disclose going on at the start of the month, with the plan to have that all locked up by the 12th, and then I could turn my attention back to matters here. Well, about that, while I’m still somewhat lucid…
The good news is, I do believe I got everything done that I was aiming to have done by the time the sun set on the 12th. More, in fact, if you were to also include the sudden surprise reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override at The Game Awards, and the subsequent press release and Robot Master Design Contest announcement.
The bad news is pretty much everything immediately following.
I’ve been sick ever since then. Not just the sniffles, either. That picture of X at the top of this post wasn’t chosen by chance; that hole in his chest represents where my lungs used to be, before coughing them up numerous times. I’ve barely slept more than a few minutes at a time since Monday, fevers have risen, broken, and risen again, and I’m going to spare you the more unpleasant details. Just know that there’s been a lot going on.
As a result, it looks like I’m probably falling well short in my various plans for the end of the year.
This weekend, we were looking at kicking off the Mega Man 9 portion of “Nadia & David’s Mega Man Mayhem,” which I was looking forward to on account of never quite finishing that one. Close, but thanks to Capcom’s design choices of the time, never quite got to happen. Even if I wind up having a miraculous recovery today or tomorrow, I’m not sure my throat is going to be up to the rigors of talking on about things for 90 minutes, and we want to deliver a better performance than that — especially given all the upbeat buzz around things lately.
Maybe we’ll do something the following week, not sure yet. In the midst of the end-of-year holidays, though, maybe it wouldn’t be the best time for starting Mega Man 9? So we might do a one-off instead, like something with Marvel vs. Capcom or something else, if anything. Starting the new year with Mega Man 9 really doesn’t sound so bad, anyway.
Then there’s “Legends of the Halcyon Era”. I was so eager to get the last two episodes of the year out before the holiday breaks of November and December, but while the second part of “Homecoming” is partly finished… it’s also even more partly unfinished. With any luck, maybe I’ll still be able to get it out before the end of the year, with time enough for people with a spare minute or three in their holiday to check out, but I’m not going to have things ready before the break starts tomorrow, as I’d hoped, and I’m truly sorry for that (especially after hyping that and a recap up previously… I hear you laughing, Wily).
And speaking of sorry, I’m really sorry I didn’t get to do anything to mark Mega Man’s 38th anniversary on the 17th yesterday. There was some good Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection news, but I’ll get to that in time. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there, so to speak, old friend.
I’m usually more active on social media and other places, too, but not so much with this going on.
If I had more to say, it’s slipped away from me, and I’d better wrap it up. I just wanted to let everyone know what was happening with previously-announced plans in the near future and why I’ve been silent during such a momentous time in the history of our favorite multimedia franchise.
Thanks for reading, and if you want to take pity and kick a couple of bucks our way on Patreon, Ko-fi, or PayPal so I can get another E Tank bottle of NyQuil, it would not go unappreciated!
Okay, my ability to type has sharply degraded since I started this. Happy Holidays, all, if I’m not back by then.
