Capcom Teases Rockman X9 in Rockman X Anniversary Collection Soundtrack?

First and foremost, this could be something, or it could be nothing. With Capcom, it’s gone both ways.

With that said, Protodude’s Rockman Corner (via… Newsweek? Really?) has found that the recently-released Rockman X Anniversary Collection (Mega Man X Legacy Collection to you and I, unless you import… or maybe switch the language settings, I haven’t tried that yet) soundtrack album contains something interesting in its insert:

Count with me here: X7, X8… and a big blank space with just one vertical line of text, which when translated says “The story of X’s fight is not yet over.”

Of course, as we know, X has other adventures beyond the events of Mega Man X8: The disputed canon of Mega Man X Command Mission, the Elf Wars, Mega Man Zero, and Model X in Mega Man ZX, at the very least. So this could just be a reference to that.

On the other hand, Protodude notes, it also feels like a callback to a message to fans from a 20th anniversary book released before Mega Man 9 was announced, “The legend is not yet complete…”

With that said, it would probably be for the best not to expect anything especially concrete, explicit, or definitive for a little while yet — not until Mega Man 11 has been released and had its chance to bask in the spotlight for a bit, anyway. After all, whether “Mega Man X9” happens could depend as much on its success as it does Mega Man X Legacy Collection‘s (review forthcoming, by the way).

Or Capcom could announce it the day Mega Man 11‘s released. Or tomorrow. Later today, even. It’s really hard to tell any more, isn’t it? But that certainly keeps things interesting.
