Mega Man X3 for NA, Mega Man V for Europe, Mega Man X4 & 5 to PSN

Wow, there is just so much to talk about in terms of new, recent, and upcoming releases of vintage Mega Man games, rounding it up in one place just seemed like the right thing to do. So, let’s get started.

First, we begin with the here and now, today.

In North America, Wii U owners now have the opportunity to download the final “MegAugust” game, Mega Man X3. Worth noting is that this particular version has never been re-released before; the final Mega Man X game to grace the Super NES would also be the first to see release on the original Sony PlayStation and SEGA Saturn (as well as the PC).

Those later versions featured a different CD-enhanced soundtrack alongside full-motion video elements, and would be the same version later used in the release of Mega Man X Collection. Some people prefer the original, however, and now is their chance to play it once again, complete with all the Wii U Virtual Console perks we’ve come to expect: Off-TV Play, Restore Points, and Miiverse functionality.

Thanks to a tip from Spin Attaxx, we’ve been informed that today also marks the release of Mega Man V for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Europe (the trailer above is for the earlier NA release, as we couldn’t find a Euro trailer). It joins the recently-released Game Boy originals Mega Man III and Mega Man IV in that region’s Nintendo eShop.

Now, back in North America, this is where things get a little funky for completionists. See, while “MegAugust” may be over, a new month still brings new releases… and new platforms.

Over on Capcom Unity, Brett Elston has revealed that Mega Man X4 will be hitting the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on September 2nd, 2014. One week later on September 9th, Mega Man X5 will follow suit. They’ll be in good company, as the Complete Works PlayStation ports of the first four NES Mega Man titles are currently available in the Import Store, while Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X is in the PlayStation Portable’s store and the duo of Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 are also available on PlayStation 3.

Of course, while some people are content to ignore everything after Mega Man X5, we know that Mega Man X6 and up do have their fans. Likewise, we’re sure Europe is wondering if they’ll be getting the opportunity to pick these up as well. We’re reaching out to Capcom to see if there is any good news to deliver, and if there is anything more than a “nothing announced yet,” we’ll update this post.
