The Blue Ink Editorials: Lands of Confusion

When I first heard that Archie was planning a followup to the Worlds Collide arc which would be entitled Worlds Unite, my first thought was, Oh, goody. Another way for them to up their subscriptions for a short period of time. Admittedly, this was a particularly cynical thought on a particularly cynical day, but the more I think about it… the more I feel like my first snap judgment was the right one.

First we had our three blue heroes (plus a stick-slingin’ badger), then we saw an egg roller, Shellcore warrior, fantasy fighter, and a hero who is simply Viewtiful. Yesterday brought us a goddess, a demon, a Nightmaren, and a beast rider from the distant past. That brings us today, where we learn the final identities of the Capcom and SEGA franchises participating in Archie’s “Worlds Unite.”

For Free Comic Book Day in 2013, those who don’t regularly follow the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog or Mega Man in print format had the opportunity to see what events transpired leading up to the Worlds Collide crossover event. Now, with Worlds Unite on the horizon for the summer of 2015, Archie is going back to the well once again for their annual FCBD offering.

When Nintendo first announced the upcoming amiibo interactive figures that would be based on several members of the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS roster, one could not help but notice that the likes of third-party characters Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog were conspicuous by their absence.
