History: Nytetrayn began life on Terra with a past filled with mystery, one which helped him to form a bond with his future-partner Fenix, who helped teach him about some of the more common Terran customs.
Nytetrayn first awoke in an ancient spacecraft inside of a hangar buried deep underground. He attempted to learn more regarding what he was doing there, and what his purpose was, only to fail when the last remnants of power finally saw the ship’s onboard computer give out. Using what devices and methods he could gather, he found his way out of the glorified tomb and made his way towards the nearest settlement, where he learned about the world’s civilization and the profession of Digging, which he then chose to take up.
On his first dig, he met up with a strange fellow by the name of Fenix, who took the newcomer under his wing in discovering some of the finer points of not only Digging, but fitting into society as well. Sort of.
The two, having formed a bond and partnership, started a career in Digging together after moving to Monroe Island. The arrangement was meant to be only temporary until they could get enough zenny to afford their own airship, but a high cost of living would stunt those plans. After some time of going on routine digs, they eventually discovered something more than refractors deep within one ruin. They found the bureaucratic Reaverbot unit Janine, whom they nicknamed “the Reaverbot Queen” and joined forces with, turning their dynamic duo into an untouchable trio.
Along the way, the group has met many others, including Black Steel, Xenos Geist, Adam Powers, Radi, Tom Morrow, MegaMan Magnus, and MegaMan Blade. But perhaps the most important one to Nytetrayn would be the mysterious young lady he saved at the hospital one night. After arriving from a ruin he and his friends had just fought their way through, defeating the demonic Reaverbot Sherman East along the way, he donated the sole-surviving refractor to the hospital so they could properly operate the machinery needed to be used to bring her out of a coma.
Before the group left the island, the young woman, short of breath, was able to catch up to the group to thank them, Nytetrayn especially. Without any place for her to go, no memories of who she was, and not even her name, Nytetrayn, feeling at least partially responsible for her current state of affairs, offered to let her come with them. He would soon give her the name “Celeste.”
The two seemed to have a fondness for each other from the start, and have more recently become a lot closer — something just about everyone but themselves had expected.
Recently, Nytetrayn has had the biggest shock of his life come to him. After being nearly destroyed at the hands of Fenix’s father, the Air Pirate Trevor Creed, he was rescued by some mysterious strangers who took him back to their base of operations. There, he discovered that rather than being a human, he was actually the last Earthbound member of an ancient race known as “Reploids.” Further, he finally met his creator, Black Draco, Supreme Commander of the distant planet of Avion.
Since then, there has been an odd tension between the “father” and his “son.” They went with the rest of the group back to Avion, where things reached a breaking point when Black Draco offered a solution to Celeste and Steel’s memory loss, but with the risk that they might not remember their recent lives. While Celeste convinced Nytetrayn to give him another chance, to which the Digger reluctantly agreed, only time will tell how well the two will get along… if at all.
Personality: Easy going and adventurous, sarcastic, but generally likeable. Curious in a way, but also cautious, which causes some inner-conflict. He and Fenix are known for liking to bounce quips off of one another. Still fairly young, he works hard at what he does. He feels that the best defense is a good offense, and is always working to improve his armaments. More outgoing than Fenix, this puts him in the chief position of getting information from people in towns. Although he sometimes tires of it, he usually gets back at Fenix by having him go first in the ruins.
Though he picked up what some might see as less-desirable influences from Fenix early on, including a focus on the monetary side of their profession, these have been tempered somewhat since meeting Celeste.
Likes: Celeste, friends, Digging, tinkering with stuff, reading, making good weapons, and of course, finding big refractors — which in turn allows him to keep affording the rest.
Dislikes: Reaverbots. Being treated like a kid.
Shticks: Usually wears black, often along with an Outback-styled hat he found on a Dig, and always wears the refractor necklace he got from Celeste. Has a tendency to tinker with things when bored.
Abilities: Always tinkering with stuff, he is accomplished as a mechanic, and has computer knowledge as well which proves valuable to the team. He also makes a pretty good negotiator, and ends up as the voice of the group as a result. Keeps a small supply of flares handy for lighting up darkened ruins. He has also devised a handy “trap ball” device for use in ruins, which resembles a rubber ball that bounces all around a chamber or hallway to set off traps or trigger Reaverbots, and always returns to his hand. His dark armor allows him to blend in to shadows to keep out of view of Reaverbots, thus earning him the nickname “The Shadow Digger.” Has a retractable helmet which covers his hair to allow him to further blend in the darkness, and is working on adding heat and night vision to it. Keeps lock picks in the back of his gloves. Also uses a grapnel gun built into his gauntlet and a flight unit built into the backpack that he received from Xenos.
After being nearly killed by the pirate Trevor Creed, Nytetrayn was revived by the Avions Clank and Commander Black Draco, who restored some lost features to him. These include the Emergency Acceleration System, a flash-shield that can generate a protective barrier around him for a split-second, a magnetic hover system which allows him to halt his midair movement for about a second and a half, and the Attribute Amplification System (AAS), which allows Nyte to temporarily amplify a different attribute when he needs to, be it strength, speed, or even intelligence. He’s even learned to use it in conjunction with his Nyte Buster, but it consumes a lot of energy, so he must use it sparingly or else risk burning himself out. There may be other abilities yet to be discovered that Nytetrayn can access which are linked to the AAG, too.
Nytetrayn is currently running at around 19% of his maximum power, which has been capped to remain consistent with his previous output so as not to endanger others. Over time, he should slowly but surely learn and become stronger as he grows closer to reaching his maximum potential.
Weaknesses: Previously, Nytetrayn would tend to be nervous around women, at least when they would try and get close to him; he’d become almost totally oblivious to logic and common sense when this happened, as he’d be almost completely preoccupied with trying to figure out exactly what to do. However, since he and Celeste have grown closer, this weakness has become more subdued.
Due to having to switch weapons on his own, he tended to lag in the middle of a battle when he’d need to switch weapons, and usually did that best if provided with cover. Without cover, it could present problems for him. However, since the creation of his GunRobos, he expects this problem should be greatly reduced.
Nytetrayn’s programming and testing weren’t fully completed before his awakening. Combined with system degradation over the many years he spent sealed away underground, this has led to some peculiar quirks in his thinking and behavior, including misunderstanding names and sometimes taking things literally or at face value.
Finally, Nytetrayn is also very wary of forms of teleportation, thanks to his first (and only) experience with it.
Weapons/Attacks: His right arm is equipped with a unique Buster of his own design, dubbed the “Nyte-Buster.” It is unique in that it has three modes: standard Buster, saber-arm (“Nyte-Saber”), and shield-arm (“Nyte-Shield”). The power of the blade and shield are only equal to that of the Buster at the time, though these can be upgraded with new Buster parts. He also keeps a backpack full of equipment and weapons kits that can be assembled on-site, including a Powered Buster and Splash Mines. His favorite kit is one of his own design for an energy-based Gatling Buster, which he usually equips before heading into a ruin.
Nytetrayn has also been working on a special project, a sort of “Robot Ride Armor” mech with long-range capabilities, and enough room for two. It’s functional, but is still being fine-tuned, and lacks a sufficient refractor to power it.
More recently, Nytetrayn has developed his own small crew of GunRobos: Small robots which can convert into weapons at a moment’s notice. Twirl turns into a Gatling Buster, Surefire a Powered Buster, and Blaster a Grenade Launcher. The three are independently-thinking robots who are also able to operate efficiently on their own, but after being trashed during a test run by Creed, were recently repaired and upgraded by the Avion medic Clank to operate with more sophisticated artificial intelligence than before. While they can now speak in more than beeps and whistles, the full effect of Clank’s tinkering has yet to be seen.
