Battle Geek Plus’s Awesome Video Game Memories of Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Battle Geek Plus’s Ryan is back with some more Awesome Video Game Memories, and this time he’s brought a friend! And while he and Damian aren’t talking about a Mega Man game here, they are talking about a game with a fair number of Mega Man characters in it, so that counts, right?
Now sit back as they take you for a longer-than-usual ride…
I think I’ve mentioned this before, but Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes never quite resonated with me as well as the first, mainly due to the fact that it lacks almost any sort of story beyond its sole, shared ending — bolstered by the fact that I tend to do more single-player than multiplayer gaming in fighters, especially before online gaming was a thing.
They say that fighting games don’t have a story, but that’s become decidedly less true as time goes on, and even back then, what little we got was incentive enough. This one, though, offered no such luxury.
As such, I never got to play much outside of the arcades. I didn’t have a Dreamcast or PlayStation 2 until those systems were on their way out and I could get them for cheap (and still don’t have an Xbox, though I hope to someday), while the Xbox 360 controller’s Dpad was a serious deterrent, and I still don’t have a PlayStation 3.
Ideally, I’d love to see Capcom get the Marvel license once more and release a collection on disc with all three Marvel vs. Capcom titles, plus maybe the Marvel fighting games which preceded them. Now that I’m rocking an Xbox One (with a much better Dpad) and a PlayStation 4, I feel reasonably comfortable saying that I’m ready for it.
What about you, though? Do you have fond memories of the game, or would you like another chance to take a shot at it? Sound off in the comments below!
