Battle Geek Plus’s Awesome Video Game Memories of Mega Man 4
Wow, now here is a pretty quick turnaround following Mega Man 3. Battle Geek Plus’s Ryan is back as he shares his fond memories of what might be one of the more controversial games in the Mega Man Classic series, Mega Man 4:
Mega Man 4 is kind of an odd duck among its peers; many argue that Mega Man 2 or Mega Man 3 is where the original series peaked, at least on the Nintendo Entertainment System, leaving the divide between those who think Mega Man 4 was the series’ best offering yet and those who feel it began something of a downhill slide for the franchise — at least until Mega Man X came along to breathe new life into it.
One thing I’ve not heard others really say that Ryan brings up here is that Mega Man 4 has a darker, more dramatic feel to it than its predecessors. A bit more story to it, sure, but darker and more dramatic? I never thought about it that way before, but I suppose there might be something to that — and that might be why some people like it more than those which came before.
What do you think, though? Do you believe it skews darker than before, or not so much? Do you think it’s where the series began a decline, or was it the top of the NES stack for you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
