Comcept Reveals the Voices and Bios of Mighty No. 9
Before I get started here: All the “Mega Man-Esque” stories now appear in the same feed as everything else. For various technical/logistical reasons, it just works better this way. If you really want your Mega Man and your Mega Man-Esque stories separated, however, you can find the Mega Man-Esque stuff here. We good? Good.
Now, with that out of the way…
Comcept has posted a brand-new update to their website, one which will really flesh out the characters of Mighty No. 9, and in more ways than one.
For starters, Beck now has a voice! As does Call! And… well, quite simply, everyone! From 370 voice samples (which were narrowed down to that from many more), 15 voices were chosen to bring the world of Mighty No. 9 to life. Here’s the rundown, and some may even look familiar to you…
Mighty No. 1 Pyrogen: Matt Mercer
Mighty No. 2 Cryosphere: Paige King
Mighty No. 3 Dynatron: Jan Johns
Mighty No. 4 Seismic: Fred Tatasciore
Mighty No. 5 Battalion: Brian. T. Delaney
Mighty No. 6 Aviator: Mick Wingert
Mighty No. 7 Brandish: JP Karliak
Mighty No. 8 Countershade: Steve Blum
Mighty No. 9 Beck: Yuri Lowenthal
Call: Julie Nathanson
Dr. White: Jason Spisak
Dr. Sanda: Dave Wittenberg
Seijiro Sanda: Dave Wittenberg
Mr. Graham: Scott Whyte
Dr. Blackwell: Bob Joles
Heatwave as Mighty No. 8? Sold! But while some of us might have been tempted to let our inner-fanboy do the casting, the directors and producers “listened to each and every vocal sample without knowledge of the voice actors attached to them and cast or votes.” From there, they went to work at Rocket Sound in Los Angeles to record the dialogue.
You might notice above that the Mighty Numbers have additional names, and that leads into the second part of the update: Each one has a bio posted, offering such data as their number, codename, nickname, abilities, height, weight, Xel value, and a short blurb about them.
“We’ll reveal a bit more before the game goes on sale,” they tease, “but for now try connecting the dots yourself.”
Finally, the funding for bonus content they began in July last year comes to an end on Monday, February 16th. “Development of Mighty No. 9 is in the final legs (before we move on to start porting it to all the various systems), and holding out any longer will start to affect the development schedule.”
On the downside, it looks like the goal for the Ray downloadable content wasn’t met, but “the dev team hasn’t given up on making it a Ray-ality! We’ll keep looking for other ways to make the DLC happen.”
