It’s LEGO A-Go-Go for Dr. Wily with New Skull Castle Ideas Submission

Ever since Capcom designed little robot minions (but not Minions. *shudder*) for Tron that looked like little LEGO men, the pairing of Blue Bomber and brick building has seemed only natural. And yet, all these years since, there’s been little real movement on that front.

However, one fan seeks to change that. LEGO Ideas user Grant_Bricks has a campaign running presently for a submission which focuses on the iconic visual of Dr. Wily’s fortress, alternately known as “Skull Castle” and “Wily City,” depending on your preferred lore. Check it out:

Presented as the “Mega Man 40th Anniversary – Wily’s Castle,” Grant_Bricks writes in the description:

What better way to celebrate Mega Man’s 40th Anniversary in 2027 than by making his debut in Lego form! The set consists of a Wily’s Castle build with removable portions featuring his lab and the iconic Yellow Devil boss fight as well as 6 Minifigures: Mega Man, Dr. Light, Roll, Dr. Wily, Proto Man, and Bass. Mega Man is a franchise that both of the designers of this set are huge fans of and we wanted to do it justice by giving the fans everything they could want in a Lego Mega Man set! The build totals around 1800 pieces. The castle in this set is an amalgamation of iconic Wily Castles throughout the series with inspiration mainly taken from how it looks in Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 4.

Here’s a further look at the mock-up (“proof of concept,” if you prefer) images provided.

As great as having a full LEGO Skull Castle would be on its own, something would be missing without someone to run around it. And here, we have six candidates pulled from the core cast: Mega Man, Dr. Light, Roll, Proto Man, Dr. Wily, and Bass. Keep in mind that this mock-up would have been made with pre-existing LEGO parts; an actual production version would no doubt feature custom pieces that more closely resemble everyone, as seen in cases such as the Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO sets.

Turn the set around, and you can see what secrets lie within!

On the lower level, Mega Man squares off with one of the most iconic bosses of all time, the Yellow Devil! This was chosen not only for its notorious challenge among even those who aren’t diehard series fans, but also the many appearances it has made over the years.

Upstairs, we have Dr. Wily working away in his lab, with all sorts of Easter eggs present. How many can you spot?

“If you would like this to become a real set please click the big yellow support button and share it with friends!” says Grant_Bricks. “If it reaches 10,000 votes it could become a real Lego set!”

As of this writing, the campaign has 312 supporters (including yours truly). Head on over to the project page on LEGO’s website and register an account (if you don’t already have one) to show your support.

This isn’t the first time someone’s tried to push Mega Man through the LEGO idea submission system. However, those submissions were made before video game IP (including Minecraft, Fortnite, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda) became a prominent part of LEGO’s licensed portfolio. Maybe with those now drawing money for them, they’d be more willing to give Mega Man a closer look?

Thanks for reading (and watching)! And in case you haven’t heard, the hosting costs for keeping this place running ain’t cheap, so if you like what we’re doing here, would like to see us expand our breadth of content, and can kick in a few bucks to our Patreon, buy us an E Tank on Ko-fi, or just do something with PayPal, we’d greatly appreciate it!
