Kekeke… Sigma Joins the Mega Man X Ver.Ke Redesign Club
Rockman Unity has a long tradition of posting unusual images on April Fool’s Day, often signs of things to come. Perhaps the most significant and popular of these was the reveal of a new style of Rockman X by artist Keisuke Mizuno, which eventually came to pass in both action figure and in-game forms.
Known collectively as the “Ver.Ke” style of design, we would later see Zero get the same treatment in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, with Axl and Alia joining their Maverick Hunter comrades in a 25th anniversary art piece revealed in December.
The April Fool’s tradition continues this year, as Rockman Unity looks back as a lead-up to this year’s reveal. Via Google Translate, the post says “It is Rockman Unity’s April Fool’s Day, which is doing something every year and what really happens later,” hinting that what we are about to see may only be the beginning of what’s to come.
And yet, there is a tease — perhaps even a challenge — for longtime fans to guess which previous years’ reveals were real, and which were not. That brings us to 2018:
Indeed, this version of Sigma was not shown last year. Described (via Google Translate, again) as “X series 25th anniversary Mizuno version sigma” Mizuno Arrange Edition X followed by Sigma also released! It was a news story. Even though I say “release”, I do not know what kind of Sigma will be released . After this, the design of the axel and aria of the Mizuno version is also released. Will there be a Mizuno arrangement such as Macs that had become futuristic? The topic is endless. … Well, how was it? There were various lies! Do you remember all of them? The big question, of course, is what this might be foreshadowing. More merchandise? Or something more substantial? Could this be a peek at what we can expect from a ninth Mega Man X game (by which I mean numbered, obviously), or might this simply be something for the rumored retake on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (it is a revamp of Sigma’s first form, which was used in the original game, after all)?
