Battle Geek Plus’s Awesome Video Game Memories of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
As of this writing, I still haven’t gotten to play Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. I do know that the reception to it upon its release was pretty frosty, though, and things like its absence from Evo don’t help to make it look like a must-buy.
Now that tempers have maybe cooled a bit, Ryan from Battle Geek Plus is taking us back to last year’s release and telling us the score. (Warning for Not Safe For Work language).
The timing is pretty good, too, as apparently this past weekend saw a lot of dirt dug up about the development of the game, which has also seen a fair share of speculation and controversy.
PlayStation Lifestyle reports that competitive fighting game player Jonathan Parkes described working with Marvel was “a f***ing nightmare,” from requiring specific pairings (such as Hulk and Ryu) be shown in promotional videos to only allowing Capcom characters to be shown on the receiving end of a beatdown in the combo tutorial videos.
Less surprising is the additional tidbit from ComicBook.com that any asset for the promotional material had to go through Marvel, though that’s to be expected when you’ve got two separate companies bringing their different brands together.
Bleeding Cool notes other pairings spoken of included, to no one’s surprise, “Iron Man and Mega Man (X)”, as well as Chun Li and Captain Marvel. They also cap the whole thing off well by asking “if Disney was so demanding and overreaching… would Cpacom ever want to work with them on another MvC game again?”
As for me, I’m just waiting on a really good sale. Ditto for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, for that matter.
