Box Hedge Games Teases Mega Man-esque Kickstarter Project
In the absence of any new Mega Man games from Capcom, there has been a ground swelling of other games to try to fill the void, ranging from fan games to new efforts from previous series creators themselves!
The latest such effort comes from independent studio Box Hedge Games, who is teasing an upcoming Kickstarter with the following image:
There is no mistaking their intentions, as their press release states “Our game is intended to all Mega Man lovers and/or anyone who enjoys playing great indie games such as Retro City Rampage, Shovel Knight, Undertale, and Stardew Valley. NES Classic Edition and Super NES Classic Edition players are welcome too!”
The company, comprised of development talent from companies such as Frontier Developments, Eden Games, King Digital Entertainment, and Gameloft, has been working on this project for the last year, and will launch a Kickstarter in the coming weeks with an aim at bringing their as-yet unnamed (as far as we know) title to the New Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo Switch, and Windows 10 PCs, with an eye on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for later.
In the meantime, they have taken to social media to share some aspects of the game.
Corey is the main hero of this tale, capable of using Super-Charge and Double-Jump abilities. He can also don eight different Power Suits, including the Falcon Power Suit, which allows him to glide for a short time and pierce enemies with his weapon.
“Our game is a genuine 2D action-platformer in the same vibe that video games from the late 80’s and early 90’s found on the NES console,” they go on to say. “Expect a true 8-bit NES aesthetic featuring colorful sprites and backgrounds with awesome NES soundtracks with rousing rhythms!”
You can hear a sample of said music by way of this sample of the main theme:
They add the following comment from one of their testers: “I’m a huge fan of the Mega Man series, so playing your game was just a pure joy for me. I felt right at home even if there’s quite a lot of new and different stuff in it.”
Further details are still to come, and if you’d like to keep up with Box Hedge Games directly, you can find them on Twitter and Facebook, as well as their official home page.
