What If Mega Man X3 Was in 3D?

In a remarkable show of resilience against the changing trends of the time, the Mega Man X series lasted throughout the fifth generation of home video game consoles by sticking firmly to its 2D roots. That includes Mega Man X3, which was the first entry in the series to reach the SEGA Saturn and Sony PlayStation, albeit as an upgraded port of the series’ last title for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Many years later, we got an idea of how the original Mega Man X would look as a 3D game with Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X on the PlayStation Portable, and more recently, X MaverickHunter on YouTube has given us an idea of how some sequels would look in that same style.

As part of the 30th anniversary of Mega Man, that “what if” peek at a world where Mega Man X jumped to 3D a generation sooner (or had the Maverick Hunter X series carried on) continues as X MaverickHunter presents the intro of Mega Man X3 in 3D:

It doesn’t end there, however, as we also get a peek at the intro stage — specifically, just after Zero rescues X from Mac and the latter goes on to face the boss, Maoh the Giant:

As you can see, the change to 3D lends itself to a different style of battle than we’re used to, as X’s attacks on the giant Mechaniloid are somewhat reminiscent of the final battle between Yoshi and Baby Bowser in Yoshi’s Island.

But what do you think of this reimagining of the third entry in the series? Sound off in the comments below!
