Mega Man Mastermix Returns the Blue Bomber to the Printed Comics Page

This has proven to be a week full of ups and downs for fans of blue video game heroes in comic books.

Earlier this week, SEGA announced that they would be parting ways with Archie Comics, who had published the longest straight licensed comic book run of all time in Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s a sting that Mega Man fans know all too well, as while the Blue Bomber’s run may not have been as spectacular in length as the Blue Blur’s, it came to a premature end/”hiatus” all the same.

Fortunately, while we can only hope for some good news to come from SEGA’s particular wording at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, our side of the blue coin has fortunately turned up some good news already.

Behold, Mega Man Mastermix:

The artwork may look familiar to you, coming from fan favorite mangaka Hitoshi Ariga’s Mega Man Megamix, but you’ve never seen it like this!

UDON Entertainment’s Mega Man Mastermix is a full-size quarterly publication that will bring to you the popular manga stories in full color, as provided by Josh Perez of Transformers fame, under the supervision of Ariga himself. Plus, each volume will feature all-new cover art!

The first 80-page volume will arrive in January 2018, and will follow the stories’ chronological order starting with the first Mega Man game, with the second issue telling the story of Dr. Wily’s return, and the mega-sized Mega Man 3 will require both issues 3 and 4 to tell. As for the price, that’s yet to be determined.

While the calendar year of 2018 is fully accounted for with these first four issues, Ariga has many more stories than this to tell. With that in mind, there is no planned length for the series, though UDON Entertainment Director of Publishing Matt Moylan says that it will hopefully go on for some time yet.
