The Inti Creates 20th Anniversary Gunvolt Contest

Around two years ago, when the original Azure Striker Gunvolt was first released for the Nintendo 3DS, I received a package from 8-4 Ltd. containing a press kit for the game. Much like the Mega Man 9 press kit Capcom released seven years ago, this souvenir was fashioned to resemble a Super Famicom release of their latest title.

See for yourself (and please excuse the cat hair):

Beyond the pics above, I have no opened this press kit. To see what it contains, check out IGN’s unboxing from back then:

The purpose was to use it as the prize in a contest. It was originally going to be used as such for Nintendo Force magazine, but as my records show, I never heard back about it. The year-end rush of games probably had something to do with it, and between that and life, it laid forgotten for a while.

Some time later, I came across it when doing some cleaning, and decided to put it away and hang on to it for a special occasion. But what? I wasn’t sure.

That is, until they announced Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 in early 2015. “Well, doing something for the sequel might be good,” I thought. Not long after, Jeremy Parish wrote on USgamer about how Inti Creates was celebrating their 20th anniversary, and everything instantly clicked.

Which brings us to today, as I’m happy to announce that we’re celebrating two decades of Inti Creates (if a little late) and the release of Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 with a contest!

There have been many other games developed by Inti Creates over the years, from the acclaimed Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX series to Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, and numerous non-Mega Man titles as well, such as Power Rangers Samurai: The Game, Naruto SD Powerful Shippuden, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures for Nintendo 3DS, Gal*Gun, and yes, Mighty No. 9, as well as numerous Japanese-exclusive titles such as their inaugural outing in Speed Power Gunbike to hotly-anticipated future releases such as Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. You can find most of the games they’ve worked on here.

What I want from you is to leave a comment telling about your favorite Inti Creates game or games in the comments below. Alternatively, since we haven’t had a good fan art contest here in a while, you can also leave a picture you’ve created depicting your favorite Inti Creates game or games instead of talking about it (a picture is worth a thousand words, after all) in the comments as well. Either way, keep it clean, folks (that means around PG to PG-13 at worst).

Note that there is to be one entry per person, and the winners will be drawn at random and contacted via the e-mail address attached to their Disqus account. You must have one, the other, or both of the above (it’s your time, I won’t tell you how to spend it) attached to the comment in question, or else it doesn’t count. Your choice!

The runner-up will receive a code to download Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 for the Nintendo 3DS, while the grand prize winner will receive that and the Azure Striker Gunvolt Super Famicom press kit shown at the top of this article. Plus, I think those press kits came with a code for the original Azure Striker Gunvolt on the Nintendo 3DS, though I honestly have no idea if that’s still any good or not. That will be a hot roll of the dice for you.

This contest is open now until 11:59pm EST on Friday, October 7th, and the winners will be contacted as soon as I get through sorting everything after.

Thanks to Inti Creates and 8-4 Ltd. for providing the prizes for this contest, and congratulations to Inti Creates on over two decades in the business!
