Master Chief: Megafied?
Earlier this week, Microsoft released the Xbox One S, and the gaming community being what it is, it didn’t take long before people started taking it apart to see what makes it tick. What they found, though, is amusing if not interesting.
In disassembling the newer, sleeker Microsoft console, YouTuber Austin Evans discovered that emblazoned on one of the internal components is the image of Halo‘s main star, the Master Chief (at 1:13):
While that in itself wouldn’t be enough to warrant a mention here, however, did you notice anything strangely familiar about the image used? Here, have a closer look:
Those proportions, that stance — doesn’t it remind you of someone?
Though the image seems to be a more generalized version of the pose used by Mega Man and X in the 16-bit and 32-bit eras, rather than emulating a specific version, it certainly looks as though John-117 is taking some cues from the Blue Bomber, doesn’t it?
Beyond a neat little bit of trivia you can bring out to impress your friends and prospective hook-ups, there probably isn’t much here that means anything — unless this is some sort of clue that Microsoft Studios wants to make a 2D Halo platformer. At the very least, maybe Mega Man 9 and 10 will show up as backwards-compatible titles soon?
