ScrewAttack Puts the Screws to Mighty No. 9 with New AGVN II Trailer (Update)

Well, it’s safe to say that the latest trailer for Mighty No. 9 (check it out here if you’ve not seen it already) has not exactly left a great taste in the mouths of many. From Kotaku to PC GamerPolygon, Eurogamer, and even Sonic the Hedgehog himself, reception has been… shall we say “nonplussed” by it, with more to do with how it was presented than anything to do with the quality of the game itself.

Update: It seems that Takuya Aizu, the head of Inti Creates, is none too pleased, either.

It looks like one can add ScrewAttack to that list, as they’ve wasted no time in coming up with a spoof of the trailer to promote their own recent video game release, The Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation, which itself saw a delayed release from Winter 2015 on Steam and “Nintendo” to the end of March 2016, and so far only on Steam. Following the naming of the Mighty No. 9 video as “Masterclass,” they call theirs — what else? “MasterASS.”

Not Safe For Work, obviously.

“For the record, we love anime fans…” notes the description. And they’re cutting 20 percent off the game on Steam, to boot!

As a side note, I covered the original trailer for AVGN II: ASSimilation here because I felt that the original qualified as somewhat Mega Man-esque, and the sequel appears to build on that, pulling some tricks from the Mega Man X series as The Nerd has gained a similar wall-climbing maneuver and a seeming customization that’s not unlike that series’ armor pieces.

If you’re interested in more about the game, Mike Matei and James “The Angry Video Game Nerd” Rolfe himself played the new game on the latest “James & Mike Mondays.” Again, Not Safe For Work:

Should ScrewAttack keep their promise to release the game on another platform, I’ll probably review it for myself then. At the very least, there are fewer Death Blocks, so that’s already an improvement!

Anyway, for those wondering, I was already going to post the latter video here sometime anyway, but ScrewAttack’s prompt follow-up to Mighty No. 9‘s trailer pushed me to go ahead and whip something up right now.
