Nintendo Direct Brings News Both Mega and Mighty

Wait, these aren’t the Game Boy games, are they?

Nestled amidst a series of bombshell announcements ranging from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Dragon Quest VII and VIII coming to the west, the original Pokemon Game Boy games coming to Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, and Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII joining the ranks of Super Smash Bros., there was a little bit of Mega Man news in the latest Nintendo Direct as well.

We previously saw that Japan would be receiving Rockman Classics Collection would be coming to Japan on February 25th, 2016, but it appears that we will be getting it in North America (update: And Europe’s Nintendo eShop!) first — on February 23rd, two days sooner. The packaging for that version, seen at right, features an odd green tint to the background images.

Though it will also be available in the Nintendo eShop, fans may want to keep their eye on shelves at their local retailer for the Collector’s Edition. While there’s no word on the other goodies available in Japan’s special edition, the North American release does come with the following special gold Mega Man amiibo figure:

Dr. Light’s golden boy, taken to the literal extreme.

As noted previously, the use of a Mega Man amiibo in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mega Man Legacy Collection will unlock a number of special challenges exclusive to this version. However, unlike what was previously reported, that number has increased from ten to eleven.

Finally, it feels like a running joke come true: Mighty No. 9 has been delayed again… sort of. Previously reported as scheduled for release on February 9th, 2016 the Nintendo Direct instead gives a new release date of February 16th. It’s a difference of about a week, but I’m sure that for some, seven clicks of the calendar is all the ammo they need.

Still, for what it’s worth, this info comes only from Nintendo — the Deep Silver and Mighty No. 9 Twitter accounts make no mention of it, nor does their newly-revamped official website, which still carries the February 9th release date. At the very least, this may simply mean that the Wii U version is coming out a week after everyone else.

As always, I’ll keep you updated of any further announcements.
