Inafune Talks ReCore and Mega Man Legends 3

I asked if you guys were interested in any coverage here on The Mega Man Network of Keiji Inafune’s latest robo-riffic title for the Xbox One, ReCore, and the verdict seems pretty clear:

Not really.

At best, it seems more like a “wait and see” thing. But yeah, since no one is all that interested, I’ll be by and large ignoring it when it comes to looking for stuff to post here from day to day. So of course there would be an exception only days later.

Game Informer recently caught up with the captain of Comcept about this latest venture, conducting an interview full of questions about the title — including whether ReCore implements any ideas from the canceled Mega Man Legends 3.

Maybe not at the level of calling out specific gameplay features that would have gone into Legends 3. To be completely honest, if I had the chance, I would still say, “Yes, I want to still make that game.” In that regard, there’s something probably emotional or spiritual that I feel like on a very high level that I don’t completely lose everything, all my ideas, that I had at that time. They may have been transferred or carried over or been reflected in some way, shape, or form in ReCore. That’s something that is part of me, so it’s going into ReCore. One thing that I feel is very different though is that if I went down the Legends 3 path and I was continuing on that path I feel like maybe it’s a bit of more of a throwback to when it was made. Going back into time, but giving it a new skin and fresh look. With ReCore though, I’m not looking back. I’m looking into the future. I’m looking beyond what I can do today. This has given me the opportunity to retain some of what was in my soul, but then transfer that into a future outlook and direction. That’s a big difference in the path that, to me, is different between those two titles.

While Inafune seems content enough to leave the past behind to some degree as he marches forward with his game developing life, it’s still reassuring to know that he remains interested in seeing Mega Man Legends 3. As it stands, Inafune has collaborated with numerous other companies since striking out on his own, from Marvelous AQL on Soul Sacrifice to Tecmo Koei’s Team Ninja on Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z to this venture with Microsoft Studios.

Perhaps with time and mended fences (a changing of the guard probably wouldn’t hurt, either), maybe Inafune and Capcom will someday be able to make nice and make our dreams come true?

Thanks to the tag team of Michael S and Will, who made sure I couldn’t ignore this story!
