Is ReCore ‘Mega Man-esque’?
As part of their 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference on Monday, June 15th, Microsoft unveiled a new game to the world (like you do). Called ReCore, this title is an Xbox One exclusive slated for spring 2016 that sees Keiji Inafune and Comcept team up with Armature Studio, whose staff helped develop the Metroid Prime trilogy for Nintendo.
From Xbox Wire:
As one of the last remaining humans on a planet controlled by robotic foes bent on your destruction, you must forge friendships with a courageous group of robot companions, each with unique abilities and powers. You’ll lead this band of unlikely heroes on an epic adventure through a mysterious, dynamic world.
The game looks neat, but the question I bring before you is this: “Does it feel Mega Man-esque?”
I’ve been undecided about this ever since seeing it launch. Mega Man-esque games, as covered here, usually have a certain gameplay, graphical, or even theme which make them seem like something that a fan of the Mega Man series would enjoy. While Keiji Inafune’s involvement certainly doesn’t hurt, it does of course take more than that for it to warrant attention on The Mega Man Network.
Personally, I feel like there’s a little more than that to this, what with the seeming robot “core” spirit that seems to be able to move from one mechanical body to another, presumably gaining new powers and abilities along the way. Sort of like if Mega Man were to possess other bodies to use their powers, rather than take them for his own.
But I’m curious what you all think. Most specifically, if you can say nothing else about it, whether or not I should keep an eye on this one and report news about it here as it comes. If you guys want it, I’ll do what I can to keep up. If not… well, then this is pretty much it.
If you decide you need to mull it over, then you can see what Inafune himself has to say on the official ReCore website.
