A Look at Mega Man Legends’ ‘Property Infringement’ Issues
Could a bottle of soda be what stands between us and getting a release of Mega Man Legends on the PlayStation Store?
Hopefully you’ve been enjoying the recent re-release of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, and either way, you’ve probably been wondering about the chronological next chapter in the series, Mega Man Legends. It’s long been no secret that some sort of “[intellectual property] risk,” as former Capcom Senior Vice President Christian Svensson put it, has been keeping many a western gamer from re-experiencing the classic (or even enjoying it for the first time).
Over on Protodude’s Rockman Corner, the eponymous Dude has taken a further look into the matter in a piece he calls “Regarding Mega Man Legends and Property Infringement.” There, he investigates the theories which have piled up over the years surrounding the first game, from the vocal track (which the aforementioned re-release of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne leads one to assume is no longer an issue) to the unfortunate turn taken by Teisel Bonne voice actor Rob Smith.
But the most likely culprits? Logos for products that aren’t even marketed outside of Japan.
Check the full piece out here, which also points out the problems Capcom faces with the matter thanks to Sony, as well as some other possibilities the company could examine.
