Archie Announces Mega Man and Sonic in “Worlds Unite”
We’ve seen what happens when worlds collide; in 2015, we’ll see what happens when they unite.
By way of Polygon, Archie Comics has officially announced a follow-up to their hit 2013 crossover event, “Worlds Collide,” in which Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog (and many of their allies/enemies) met up for the first time (early 90s promo art for Capcom publishing games on SEGA’s platforms notwithstanding, of course). Specifics are being saved for a reveal at New York Comic Con later this week, but in the meantime, Archie Executive Director of Editorial Paul Kaminski explains to Polygon how this event will manage to be an even bigger event than the original:
“When the worlds of Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man collided in the pages of Archie Action comics, readers, fans and retailers made it the biggest crossover event in Archie Action history,” he said in a prepared statement. “That historic crossover storyline changed the comic book worlds of Sega and Capcom’s iconic video game characters forever, but now an even bigger event is on the horizon. You saw what happened when worlds collided, now see what happens when Words Unite! And this time, no universe will be safe…”
The event kicks off in the Spring of 2015, and will be written by current master-of-their-universes Ian Flynn with covers drawn by Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante. “While it’s clear this crossover will be more expansive than the first, it’s unclear what that exactly means,” notes Polygon. “If I had to guess, I’d say it will go beyond dealing with the current, main continuity of Sonic and Mega Man Classic.”
If there was ever a cue for speculation…
However, we may not need to speculate for long, as The Archie Action Hour: Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man panel will be held at 1pm on Thursday at the New York Comic Con. There, Kaminski will be joined by Archie Comics president Mike Pellerito, assistant editor Vincent Lovallo, Ryan Jampole, Ben Hunzeker, Jennifer Hernandez, Jamal Peppers, and Jon Gray this latest shakedown of worlds.
Incidentally, we’ve also got an exclusive of our own waiting in the wings for that day, but more on that when the time comes.
