Capcom to Throttle Nintendo Virtual Consoles with New Content
Hoo-wee, Capcom has revealed a bit of a Virtual Bombshell today as we look ahead to the rest of 2014 and beyond in the Nintendo eShop. It’s like they’ve taken a folding chair of old games and won’t stop hitting the Virtual Console with new releases of them until they’re good and ready.
Sorry for the strange analogy, there must be something else on our mind tonight…
Anyway, Brelston at Capcom Unity reports that the long-awaited original Super Nintendo Entertainment System versions of Mega Man 7 and Mega Man X3 are both coming to the Wii U Virtual Console. No more need to rely on overpriced eBay auctions or the hack-job that was Mega Man Anniversary Collection (with its removed ending)! Demon’s Crest and Breath of Fire are also making the jump along this particular line.
But that’s not all! No, far from it, as six— count ’em, six– Game Boy Advance titles are coming to the Wii U, and what’s more? All six are Mega Man titles, as Mega Man Battle Network, Mega Man Battle Network 2, Mega Man Battle Network 3, Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, Mega Man Zero, and Mega Man Zero 2 are all in the pipeline.
Quite a list, huh? But we’re still not done yet!
There is some unfinished business between the original Nintendo Entertainment System and the Wii U, and so Mega Man 5 and Mega Man 6 are coming to even the score, and they’re joined by Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight, Mighty Final Fight, and Gargoyle’s Quest II. And just to balance things out nicely, those last three will also be coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop as well.
And since certain people have been asking, the Game Boy Mega Man titles we saw throughout “Mega May” have been confirmed for an August release in Europe. Here’s the full breakdown of when and where for Capcom’s upcoming Virtual Console releases, with everything not “TBD” confirmed for 2014 (the others are “maybes”):
