“Playing Games Older Than Me” Plays Mega Man 2

Sometimes, when you’ve been doing something for a long time, it’s easy to forget that there are newcomers to that job, hobby, or other pastime who are a bit younger than you are, and are very likely inexperienced at it.
For example, someone born in 1992 would be around 18 today, and very likely have missed the entire 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System era of video gaming. At around age 6, their main familiarity with modern gaming would be more about the Nintendo 64 and the original PlayStation, rather than the Super NES, SEGA Genesis, or anything before it.

And the sad truth is, it often seems as though a fair number of people who enter the hobby later and later care less and less about those games which came before, which paved the way for what we have today.

And then we have Ryan.

Ryan is a gamer who cut his teeth on the Nintendo 64, with Mario Kart 64 being an ideal nostalgic retreat among he and his friends when they decide to play a classic. Unlike some others, however, Ryan realizes that there are a lot of good games he and his age group had missed out on, games spoken of with reverence by older cousins who were there when “playing with power” and “blast processing” were the buzzwords at the forefront of the industry.

And that brings us to the point of his blog, Playing Games Older Than Me.” Since starting it, he has tried out several games from days long ago, including Metroid, River City Ransom, Battletoads, and more.

Those who were already aware of this blog may have noticed that Ryan had gone on hiatus for a couple of months, but has now returned, and the first game he has written about? None other than our reason for mentioning it here, Mega Man 2, of course.
