Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Re-Listed by ESRB for PS3, 360

Over on our affiliate Protodude’s Rockman Corner, Protodude has discovered that the ESRB re-listed Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as a game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in October. Prior to this, he happened upon an interview with one of Capcom USA’s chief muckamucks, Christian Svensson, where the subject was brought up:

“Are we done doing HD Remixes? No we’re not done. But the next ones that we do will be even better, based on what we learned.”

When asked if Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was a game that didn’t need the HD Remix treatment, Svensson replied: “I won’t say it doesn’t need it. Marvel would be great to do. There’s obviously a fan base for it. It’s probably our most requested title. Unfortunately, I wish I had news to share on that front but I don’t.”

In addition, Svensson mentioned that seeing something done for a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was less likely, as “the barriers to doing that are much higher than the barriers for MvC2.”

And, just to add a little more fuel to the fire, members of the NeoGAF forums discovered that the game showed up on PartnerNet, which is a special version of Xbox LIVE which is used by development kits.

Personally, I never did like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 quite as much as the first game, mostly due to the incredibly weak single-player mode. And by “weak,” I’m referring chiefly to the fact that the entire enormous roster shared one single ending. As game endings are often the only reason I’ll even pick up some other characters, I’m disappointed in the oversight. If Capcom should ever re-release the second game, I would very much hope that they might correct it.

If memory serves, there were fewer character-specific stages, too. I wouldn’t expect that to be changed, but nonetheless, I would like to say I absolutely loved Mega Man’s stage in the first title.
