Mega Man 9 Box Art

“What’s this,” you say? “Box art? For a game that doesn’t have a box?”
Yes indeed, True Believers… you might have noticed the likes of Keiji Inafune, Producer Hironobu Takeshita, and others working on the game wearing these bizarre t-shirts around at E3, and the design they sport? None other than the “box art” for Mega Man 9, which was also used on posters placed throughout Capcom’s booth.

Now, thanks to Jeremy Parish of 1up, you can see for yourself what the image looks like:

There’s a certain ironic awesomeness to this that they would probably never have gotten away with at retail. Sort of like the original Star Wars poster, only better. Takeshita says that if fans really want a shirt like theirs, then they’ll at least have to think about it. And if you want it, this is the best place to tell them.

According to Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom, “the US marketing team made that… you’ll note Inafune and Takeshita were wearing shirts with that graphic on them at E3 ServMrGreen.gif” and that “I suspect you’ll see some cool things done with it as we get closer to launch.”

(On a side note, he also mentions that Mega Man 9 has already been nominated for a couple “Best of E3” awards already.)
